Made in America, Real Chinese Culture

Happy Independence Day! Here at Shen Yun’s headquarters in the hills of New York we’re celebrating Fourth of July with you. A little-known fact about our company is that we are made in America.

Sure, what we perform is traditional Chinese culture with classical Chinese dance and music, but our entire production is created right here in the United States. This is where our dances are choreographed, our music composed, our costumes designed and produced. This is where our digital backdrops are crafted and our songs written. This is where our artists live, train, rehearse, and start a family.

In fact, our performers who are originally from China can’t even go back there now. They are blacklisted by the Chinese Communist Party there just for being part of Shen Yun. The CCP sees Shen Yun as a threat to its monopoly on culture and fears the return of China’s true heritage and values.

Some of our artists have come from China, others from Taiwan, Japan, Australia, or Europe. Many others were born and raised in the U.S. All these artists now call America home and every year they work inspiringly hard to produce a new performance and share it with you.
